PIA media forum tackles Magna Carta for Women

Tacloban City (March 10) -- "Communicating the salient features of the Magna Carta of Women" is scheduled to be tackled at the Media Forum on Women which will be conducted at Gerry’ Grill Tacloban City at 9:00 o’clock in the morning of March 11, 2010.

The Media Forum on Women is an annual activity of the Philippine Information Agency Region 8 as part of the month-long National Women’s Month celebration in cooperation with the local tri-media.

It is in conjunction with this year’s theme "Babae, Tagumpay Ka ng Bayan," which highlights women’s achievement in paving the way for women advancement and empowerment amidst major challenges.

The Media Forum on Women hopes to inform the local media about the success of women’s commitment to pursue equality which resulted to the passage by Congress and the signing into law of the landmark legislation, the Magna Carta of Women by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on August 14, 2009.

The Media Forum also highlights the major role the local media will play in the information dissemination of the landmark bill and in seeing to it that law is implemented to the fullest.

The PIA has invited the Commission on Human Rights Regional Director Atty. Paquito Nacino to discuss the salient features of the law considering that the CHR has been mandated to see to it that the law is implemented and that noncompliance is sanctioned.

Leyte Vice Governor Mimyet Bagulaya, a success woman achiever and women leader, will be featured as the Leyte Provincial Board is the first in the Region to pass the Leyte Code of Women and as the chairman of the GREAT Women Project in Leyte.

As customary, the women media practitioners in the Region will also be cited during the forum. (PIA 8) [top]
