Bacolod City cited Most Child Friendly among highly-urbanized cities in Western Visayas

Bacolod City (10 March) -- As in the past years, Bacolod City has again won the top spot as the Most Child Friendly City for the Highly Urbanized City category in 2009.

This was contained in a letter to Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Field Office 6, signed by DSWD Director III Joel Galicia.

The search for the Most Child-Friendly City aims to institutionalize and sustain a child-friendly environment and governance for promoting and protecting children's right to survival, development, protection and participation, Galicia said.

The city also won the same award for 2008.

Recently, the city also won in the Excell Awards 2009 as 2nd runner-up in the "Excellence in Local Legislation" category, 1st runner up in "Excellence in Social Services", 2nd Runner Up in the "Best Performing LGUs" and 1st place - topping other cities - in "Excellence in Economic Development" Award.

Other awards won include: Best Tourism-Oriented LGU (Highly Urbanized City Category), number 3 (national category) Excellence in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance Award for 2009. (CMO-PIO/PIA/EAD) [top]
