Ilocos Region kicks off Women’s Month

San Fernando City, La Union (10 March) -- Agreements made by member-agencies of the Region 1 Advocates for Gender Equality (RAGE) scheduled March 8 as the kick-off day for the regional celebration of the women’s month to promote awareness among the public on the role and importance of women in the society.

The kick-off activities, expected to be participated in by all regional line agencies and other stakeholders will commence with a motorcade around the city of San Fernando to be followed by an ecumenical mass at the Pacoy Ortega Gym, this city.

"With this year's theme, 'Babae, Yaman Ka ng Bayan', we designed various lectures focusing on the protection of women and their rights, along with health-related topics that addresses the concerns of women and strengthening more with the passage of the Magna Carta for Women in the kick-off day," Assistant Regional Director for Operations Felicidad Dumaguing, RAGE President said.

"To ensure a gender-sensitized advocacy, we reiterated participation of all stakeholders, not only women, but also men, especially in the different forums scheduled during the whole month, for them to have in-depth understanding why the magna carta for women was made into law," Dumaguing added.

Various advocacy exposures was also scheduled by the Philippine Information Agency, using the different provincial radio programs of the agency, vis-à-vis print and broadcast releases.

The different regional agencies have lined-up various month-long activities also in their respective offices to support the international vision of an empowered and equally-respected women n the society.

The culminating program is scheduled on March 28 to be held at the Diego Silang Hall, Provincial Capitol Building, this city, with Gov. Manuel C. Ortega as the Guest of Honor and Speaker. (PIA RO1/La Union) [top]
