DepEd to conduct summer classes for pre-schoolers

Zamboanga City (15 March) -- Pre-schoolers or children who are to enroll for Grade I this coming school year would undergo free summer classes in all public schools here.

This was informed by Department of Education (DEpEd) School Division Superintendent Dolores Alcantara in a recent interview.

According to Alcantara, the activity which is a nationwide project of DepEd targets the 5-6 years old pre-school children.

Pre-schoolers who have attended or have not attended formal kindergarten class can enroll in the said summer classes.

The class which is the kindergarten curriculum approach would be conducted in short term course. This would lessen time of pre-schoolers from the regular eight (8) weeks or two (2) months class attendance, Alcantara explained.

The Superintendent said classes would serve as an early guiding education and to evaluate the learning capability of the child before enrolling for Grade I during the opening of classes in June 2010.

Grade I school teacher or a full pledge pre-school teacher would handle at least 20 to 25 pupils in one setting while a maximum of ten (10) pupils would be handled by a multi-grade school teacher primarily in the interior barangays of the locality.

Each teacher would receive P4,500.00 as incentive for the duration of the summer classes which would come from the national government, Alcantara added. (PIA-Zamboanga City) [top]
