BFP Siquijor heightens campaign for fire prevention

Province of Siquijor (15 March) -- March marks Fire prevention month in the country. Guided with this year's theme: "Sustaining Fire Prevention through active community participation," the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) here headed by Fire Superintendent Nepumuceno Gangoy, is intensifying campaign on fire safety and prevention through various activities in the province.

SFO1 Panfilo Batgochoy, Provincial operation head of the BFP here said that lectures and orientation on the triangle of fire, classes of fire and fire safety tips are conducted provincewide with simultaneous Earthquake Drill in schools, barangays and selected offices.

He said the office is also planning to create a fire brigade team that will compose of the Provincial Capitol Personnel to serve the province when need arises.

During the lectures, he also stressed the dire need of water conservation at all times because water sustains life and is very important in stopping fire.

SF03 Mario Pactol, Municipal Fire Marshall of Larena town also advised the public to be cautious and be watchful for everybody's safety. He said that appliances should be properly turned off and should see to it that materials that cause fire are well kept away from children.

Pactol also said that house-to house info drive will be conducted in Larena town as suggested by Larena Municipal Mayor Gold Calibo.

Last year, about 20 establishments/institutions participated in the activities prepared by the BFP.

The celebration of Fire Prevention Month is by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 115-A which aims to create public awareness on the importance of fire safety and prevention.
