769 clients enjoy SSC's public service
Province of Siquijor (15 March) -- Some 769 clients enjoyed the services offered by the Siquijor State College in its celebration of Crystal Charter Anniversary recently.
Strongly supported by Congressman Orlando B. Fua of the lone district of Siquijor, SSC Crystal Expo 2010, highlighted schools charter celebration that showcased public services from different offices in the province.
Within the event, a total of 769 clients were served from the three pillars of the 2010 expo namely: serbisyo publiko, medical-dental, and jobs fair.
The SSC 2010 expo was formally declared by Dr. Baldomero Marinez, SSC President.
In her message, before the declaration, Dr. Rosita Vidad, SSC Vice- President of the academic affairs said the job fair is the third function of the school which is to bring improvement to the socio economic lives of the community.
Dr. Nila Caroro, emphasized that the Crystal expo 2010 ultimately aims to bring the people closer to the government.
Participating agencies for the Serbisyo Publiko are the Civil Service Commission (CSC), National Statistics Office (NSO), Land and Transportation Office (LTO), Philippine Regulatory Commission (PRC), and Registry of Deeds (ROD).
CSC headed by Dr. Merlinda Quillano had served 59 applicants for the Civil Service Exam, while LTO had conducted a seminar where about 60 SSC students have participated.
NSO, on the other hand, catered to 177 applicants for authenticated NSO certified copies of birth, marriage, death and certificate of no record of marriage (CNOMAR).
Some 91 renewals for professional licenses were also served by PRC while ROD had answered five issuances of land certificates.
The medical-dental team headed by Col. Eldon Luis Nemenzo, Deputy Commander of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) rendered services to almost 300 clients. He said that the activity depicted the core value of their profession: "Service to others above one self".
Municipal Health Officer, Dr. Susan Jojie Villa, School Physician, Dr. Josephine Bucol, Gen. Josefino Lanuncia and PAF Dentist, Major Rey Sixto Mangibin, with the participation of other members of PAF composed the medical-dental team.
At least 58 jobseekers for international jobs were also catered by the five accredited agencies of the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA) namely; Grand Placement and General Services Corporation, Foscon Ship management Incorporated, MMML Recruitment Services Inc., Nozomi Global Resources Inc. and Lexus Inc.
Atty. Roy Ligad, Legal counsel of POEA, said that searching a job abroad is a tough quest. "I am grateful to be a part of this job fair that indeed will open a new hope to this booming island," he said.
Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and POEA also conducted an orientation to students and wives of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) present during the event.
The job fair was facilitated by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), PESO, and the POEA and OWWA as chair of the supervising committee.
Other activities for the celebration were search for Mr. and Miss SSC, the Bulyagaw Festival, Search for the King and Queen of Bulyagaw, The Zipline Outdoor Activities Fun Run and the Interschool Friendly Sports Competition. (PIA) [top]
