World Water Day celebration in Iloilo to focus on water sources
Iloilo City (16 March) -- The celebration of World Water Day and Water Awareness Month in Iloilo province and city will focus on importance of knowing and taking care of our water sources.
The Iloilo Watershed Management Council (IWMC) which spearheads the event said the theme it has adopted which is ?know Your Water Source? seeks to create attention not only on the quantity of water but also quality and that there are many traditional sources of water that should be tapped to address water scarcity.
The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) and the IWMC Technical Working Group said they are putting up an Exhibit with sub-themes to inform people of the water situation in Iloilo.
The exhibits which will be at the SMCT lower ground floor, near the Food Court, consisting of graphs and illustrations on Water Quality Status, solid Waste Management program status featuring good practices from LGUs.
Another section would be the Situation of Forest and ground Water with ground water map, good practices in forest protection, ecological farming, agro forestry and coastal protection.
The Situation of Rehabilitation programs and implementation of Rainwater harvesting in the uplands, terraces, and other practices will also be featured in another section, while another one will deal with Situation of Utilization of domestic and irrigation water.
Good practices in collaboration among LGUs and other stakeholders at all levels will also be featured to send the message that water respects no political boundaries for everybody is part of the watershed continuum.
The Exhibits will be opened during the program on March 23, where Climate Change Commissioner Heherson Alvarez is expected to lead. (PIA6/ESS) [top]
