PGMA to inspect Pangasinan irrigation project
San Manuel, Pangasinan (16 March) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will inspect the ongoing re-regulating pond project (RRPP) of the Agno River Integrated Irrigation Project (ARIIP) when she visits this province today.
The P4.2 billion RRPP forms part of the ARIIP that aims to provide year round water supply to a total of 70,800 hectares and increase the production of paddy rice and diversified crops in the service area that will make farming a highly competitive and profitable business in the provinces of Pangasinan and Tarlac.
Once completed, the RRPP, which has a pond area of 85 hectares that can contain 4.6-million cubic meters of water, will be able to provide the irrigation requirements of farmer beneficiaries in the region.
Joining the President for the event will be Pangasinan Governor Amando Espino Jr., Pangasinan 6ht District Rep Conrad Estrella III, and San Manuel Mayor Salvador Perez, Presidential Assistant for Region I Ernie Mendoza, Agriculture Secretary Bernardo Fondevilla, National Irrigation Administration Acting Administrator Alexander Reuyan, NIA Deputy Administrator Antonio Galvez, NIA Regional Director John Celeste and ARIIP Project Manager Reynaldo Mencias.
Espino will conduct an on-site inspection and will be briefed on the status of the RRPP by Reuyan.
The ARIIP is one of the President's legacy projects that is expected to increase per capita income, upgrade the living standards of the populace and generate employment opportunities in the region.
The project scope includes the repair of the existing San Roque diversion weir and intake; the construction of the re-regulating pond with a capacity of 4.6 million cubic meters; construction of a canal at the right bank of the Agno River to supply existing service areas of Agno River Irrigation System; and the construction of siphon across Agno River that will link the main canal of lower Agno River Irrigation System.
