Climate Change Commissioner to lead Earth Hour 2010 Iloilo launching
Iloilo City (22 March) -- The Earth Hour 2010-Iloilo will be launched today, March 23, 3 P.M. in a program at SM City to be led by Climate Change Commissioner Heherson Alvarez, who will also be the guest of honor for the culmination activity of the Water Awareness Month and World Water Day Celebration initiated by the Iloilo Provincial Government.
Alvarez will also lead the cutting of ribbons of the Interactive Exhibits on Environment and water sources, situationer, initiatives and programs of various sectors, expected to raise deeper consciousness on the water problem in the province.
Dolly Madera, PENRO Project Officer, said Iloilo Provincial Government has been observing Water Awareness Month for several years already, to raise the consciousness of people on waters sources, quality and utilization and encourage local government units to initiate programs for environmental protection that redound to water conservation.
Commissioner Alvarez is expected to talk about the government's framework for Climate Change Adaptation as well as encourage the public to join in the symbolic switching off of unnecessary light on March 27, from 8:30-9:30 in the evening.
The week-long Interactive Exhibits will be participated in by line agencies on environmental concerns, some LGUs and non-government organizations, including the Photographic Society of Iloilo, and will feature a series of Environmental lecture-forums.
The daily forums will start March 23, with Comm. Heherson Alvarez who will talk on Climate Change Adaptation strategies, March 24, DENR Regional Executive Dir. Julian Amador, March 25, City ENRO Engr. Noel Hechanova, March 26, representatives from CPU Renewable Energy Green Forum/RISE and March 27, Marisa Segovia of Solid Waste Management Program.
These forums will begin with film showings on Environment at 2:00 P.M. daily.
