Catbalogan City (March 22) -- The National Food Authority (NFA) Samar Poor has dispatched rolling stores to depressed barangays without Tindahan Natin and Institutionalized Bigasan sa Palengke (IBSP).
The barangays residents will avail of cheap rice this summer.
Ms Rosario Cadiz, acting Information Officer told PIA about the program which identifies Samar along with some 25 other provinces considered as food-poor (Accelerated Hunger Mitigation Program priority areas) and vulnerable to El Niń0.
She added that the program as ordered by the central office started on March 11, 2010 and has been getting good feedback from the consuming public.
In fact on March 19, 2010 as PGMA visited 5th class town of San Jose de Buan, some NFA personnel with their grains retailer counterparts travelled to the frontier town for the rolling store.
Samar Governor Mila Tan also distributed rice for free; barangay residents who walked barefoot in heading home were seen clutching the two-kilo per pack 'donation' of the mother and daughter political aspirants.
NFA will continue bringing cheap rice to remote areas until all poor residents are served, said NFA. (PIA-Samar) [top]
