Covenant signing between Davao del Norte pols held
Davao City (23 March) -- Aspiring local candidates for the 2010 in Davao del Norte signed "Peace Covenant" following the run on the 2010 National Election.
The signing of a peace covenant among Davao del Norte candidates seats was held last Sunday during the Mass of Commitment officiated by Most Reverend Wilfredo D. Manlapaz, Bishop of Tagum City of the New Christ The King Cathedral, in this city.
"We in Davao del Norte should be one for a peaceful election. The candidates should reflect the image of Christ who sacrificed for the salvation of the people. You should testify the Goodness of the Lord ", Manlapaz said during his homily.
The covenant stated that the candidates will uphold the constitution and the fundamental principle of democracy that resides in the people and all government authority, obey all laws and ordinances of the land, including the pertinent Comelec Memoranda/Resolutions governing
the conduct of peaceful, orderly, honest and credible elections coming this May 10, 2010.
That they will conduct themselves in a gentlemanly manner in the spirit of good grace and friendly rivalry, in all their dealings with their fellow candidates and will only discuss legitimate political issues and lay down their platform of government through free and friendly manner and that they will renounce the use of threats, violence, force, intimidation, partisans and private armed groups and such other illegal means in the furtherance of our political
The signing of the peace covenant was initiated by the Davao del Norte Police Provincial Office, the Commission on Elections and the Diocese of Tagum.
