Maasin City mayor delivers state-of-the-city address

Maasin City, Southern Leyte (23 March) -- Two days before the start of the local campaign, this Friday, March 26, Maasin City Mayor Maloney L. Samaco delivered his State of the City Address this morning, March 23 at the city's gymnasium.

Stating the city's mission, Mayor Samaco aims to effectively and efficiently deliver the basic services and to serve his constituents in a respective manner, through his "13-point agenda", where programs and projects are all reflected as his targets and were all acted upon.

His 13-point agenda based on his name MALONEY SAMACO is meant for M-market and business improvement; A-agricultural production; L- livelihood assistance ; O-orderliness and peace promotion; N-nutrition and health services; E-education for the masses; Y-youth development; S-sports excellence; A-anti-illegal drug campaign; M-mangrove and forest protection; A-advertisement for tourism; C-concreting and maintenance of roads; and O-for overall barangay development.

While some of Hon. Samaco's accomplishments based on the thrust were mentioned as follows; construction of wet market; 15 units of barbeque stall in the amount of P2.6 million; 20 units of new market stalls worth P2.7 million; the increased in revenue tax collections from 2008 to 2009; vegetables production to combat malnutrition; the establishment of feed mill at barangay Rizal; the presence of barangay bagsakan center for the farmers; animal dispersal ; livelihood assistance through SEA-K program; seedlings propagation; the creation of Maasin City College, among the few.

Maasin City was also awarded different awards throughout the region and nominated to the national level in the fields of nutrition, healthy city initiatives, most child-friendly, and produced caliber athletes. It was also recognized by the Visayas State University as one of the best assisted vegetable farming production and recognized worldwide for the Urban Health Champion: 1,000 cities, 1,000 lives program, among others.

The city address was attended by Gov. Damian G. Mercado, Vice Gov. Mike Maamo Maasin City officials and employees, non-government organizations, media practitioners, among others. (PIA-soleyte) [top]
