Capiz PNP gears up for Holy Week

by A. Lumaque

Roxas City (23 March) -- The Capiz Police Provincial Office (CPPO) will heighten its police visibility at terminals, summer resorts and sites of religious activities to strengthen the security and safety of devotees, motorists and tourists this Holy Week.

"Our municipal police stations will provide security to the church-based activities in the towns," said Capiz Police Director Senior Supt. Josepheus Angan.

The deployment of uniformed policemen for visibility purposes to deter plans and activities of criminal elements during Lent is part of the Philippine National Police's (PNP) "Oplan Semana Santa."

At the regional level, Police Regional Office (PRO) ? 6 Director Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas said in PRO 6 Public Information Office' blogsite that all field unit commanders were directed to maintain close coordination with church organizers and other agencies concerned to ensure the efficient delivery of public safety services during the Holy Week celebration.

"We expect the increase in the volume of commuters, tourists, and motorists with the long holidays due to the observance of the Semana Santa," Cuevas noted in the online article.

The region's top cop also added that police operations against crimes, insurgency and terrorism will likewise be doubled to thwart any untoward incidents. (PIA) [top]
