DSWD-X advocates laws for disabled persons, senior citizens and solo parents

Cagayan de Oro City (23 March) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development-X recently joined the Sangguniang Bayan Session in Libertad, Misamis Oriental to advocate Republic Act 9442, RA 9257 and RA 8972.

As an advocate on the laws protecting the rights and welfare of disabled persons, senior citizens and solo parents, the DSWD, through its technical staff, gave an orientation on the laws during the session which participants were the municipal local officials.

The DSWD, the lead agency in monitoring the implementation of the laws, has been strengthening its advocacy campaign to the local government units for the adoption of the laws through SB resolutions.

During the session, the local government unit of Libertad was commended for its support to the Senior Citizens through the creation of a Senior Citizens Day Center.

The LGU, according to Sean Pamela Balais, DSWD Social Welfare Officer, has allocated P56,000 as an initial funding for the repair of the said establishment.

As a result of the campaign the local government unit pronounced their full support to the laws created for disabled persons, senior citizens and solo parents. (DSWD) [top]
