Feature: More women are obese than men
Tacloban City (24 March) -- Women tend to be obese more than men.
It was found out that there are more obese women than men.
In an article from the National Statistics Office (NSO) its figures revealed that 6.6 percent of women in the region belonged to the obese group while only 3.7 percent of men are included in the same group.
This was the result of a study conducted by the National Nutrition Council and the Food and Nutrition Research Institute in 2008.
The report further stated that weight is directly influenced by a person's lifestyle.
It also depends on the food eaten and the exercise people are getting.
Women, it stresses, usually live life in a slower pace compared to men. Women devote most of their time with their families and household chores neglecting to maintain ones weight, besides as she gets older, her metabolism slows down.
Men on the other hand are into more physical activities in their job and even in household tasks. Men also have vices that affect their weight.
Although women may contest this statement, the article said that as men age, their appeal-value increases while as women increase in age, their value depreciates. (Y Gaspay with PIA Samar) [top]
