JCI spearheads observance of Earth Hour

Tacloban City (24 March) -- The Junior Chamber International (JCI) Philippines – Candahug Liberation, Inc. together with some of its members and a number of non-government organizations conducted its renewal of commitment through the signing of the "Earth Hour" Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) held today, March 24, 2010, during the conduct of the "Harampang ha PIA" hosted by the Philippine Information Agency, Regional Office VIII.
Present during the signing of the MOA were members of the JCI led by Paul Bryant Chavez, Project Chairman of "Earth Hour"; Joel Inabangan, President of the Tacloban Bankers Association; Dr. Aileen Espina of the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center; Cosette Garcia of the Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity; Emelie Cahingcoy of the JCI Tanauan Pasaka and PIA Samar Provincial Manager Ninfa Quirante who was acting as the moderator during the media forum.
According to Chavez, as part of a global movement termed "Earth Hour", the Philippines will join the cities in Europe, America and Asia by switching off lights for 60 minutes on March 27, 2010, from 8:30 to 9:30 in the evening.
It was bared that the JCI – Candahug Liberation in coordination with the Kabang Kalikasan ng Pilipinas, and World Wildlife Fund – Philippines join efforts in promoting various activities in order to reduce pollution, wasteful exploitation and consumption of our natural resources and energy.
To give meaning to the event, and its commitment in creating positive change in the community and to continue its advocacy, JCI will be hosting "The Earth Hour" which is a walk for a cause and a bike ride. Said activity will start at the Tacloban Convention Center and will end at the RTR Plaza.
And to be assured that the message about the need to help out and act on global warming, a free concert which is open to the general public will be held at the RTR Plaza. The concert will center on its theme "Tugtugan para sa Kalikasan Year 2".
Relative to the observance of "Earth Hour", JCI-Candahug Liberation Inc. calls on the general public to give their full support in said advocacy which will hopefully make a great difference in our children’s future and leave a great impact to our mother earth.
Meanwhile, it is stated in the MOA that participating organizations are expected to inform, promote and encourage their members, employees, colleagues and associates to support and be active in the observance of the annual "Earth Hour" which is observed every last Saturday of March.
By "Earth Hour" we mean "turning the lights out" from 8:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. by the concerned members who are also encouraged to join the "Walk for a Cause and/or Bicycle Ride on March 27. (PIA-8) [top]
