PNP warns public on swimming pools, rivers during Holy Week
Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya (March 24) -- Philippine National Police (PNP) officials here have issued warnings on resort owners and operators to deploy their lifeguards near their swimming pools to avoid possible accidents during the observance of the Holy Week.
The PNP made the warning as Filipino families, as part of their tradition are expected to flock in resorts and rivers to cool themselves amid the scorching heat brought by the dry spell.
"We appealing to our resort owners and operators to deploy lifeguards and also our parents to be vigilant on our children when they swim on rivers and pools," stressed Police Chief Inspector Joseph dela Cruz, chief of police of Bagabag town.
Dela Cruz made the warning as PJ and Anabel Carino, both aged 7 and 9 respectively drowned Monday (March 22) afternoon during a swimming spree at a resort in Bagabag town.
Dela Cruz said the two fatalities were left alone swimming on the resort's pools unattended which resulted into their drowning.
He also said that there is a need to install safety precautions among resort owners and operators on their swimming pools to warn and assist their customers during the Holy Week. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
