4Ps covers 16,208 poor households

Iloilo City (24 March) -- The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), which is part of the poverty reduction program of the government, now covers some 16,208 poor households in Antique and Aklan provinces and Iloilo City.

Department of Social Welfare and Development 6 reported that there are now 9,471 poor households enrolled in the program in Antique, 3,648 in Aklan and 2,819 in Iloilo City.

In Antique, the program is implemented in five municipalities that include San Remigio, Laua-an, Valderrama, Barbaza and Bugasong while in Aklan in Libacao and Madalag.

According to DSWD 6, some P128,321,900 were already released to beneficiaries in Antique for almost two years of implementation.

The 4Ps is being implemented by the DSWD which provides cash assistance to extremely poor households to improve their health, nutrition and education particularly of children aged zero to 14 years.

Under the program a household beneficiary with three qualified children can receive a maximum of P1,400 a month during the school year as long as they comply with certain conditions such as availing of pre and post natal care among pregnant mothers; availing of regular preventive health check-ups, vaccines including de-worming pills among children; posting of at least 85% school attendance among in-school children; and attending responsible parenthood sessions and parent effectiveness seminars among parents.

DSWD 6 said the program is slated for five years. (PIA) [top]
