Province of Siquijor (25 March) -- The Regional Development Council (RDC) 7, in its Full Council Meeting Tuesday in Siquijor province, has lined up for funding construction of three more bridges in Negros Oriental and a fly-over in Lapu-lapu City.
Pal-ew Bridge, Ajong Bridge and Mabaja-Bagtic Bridge, all located in Negros Oriental are endorsed for construction under the Mega Bridges for Urban and Rural Development Project of the President?s Bridge Program (PBP) being implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
A memorandum from the Executive Director of the Project Management Office of the DPWH PBP informed the DPWH 7 that three additional sites in Negros Oriental were included in the proposed unibridges for funding under the Mega Bridges for Urban and Rural Development.
The sites were identified to be flood-prone areas, hence the need for construction of the new bridges, said the resolution.
For Cebu, construction of a fly-over at the junction M.L. Quezon National Highway and the First Mandaue-Mactan Bridge is up for funding following RDC endorsement emphasizing that the presence of a flyover in the area will lessen traffic cost and travel time.
According to the DPWH, the proposed flyover construction is needed based on the present and future normal traffic count conducted.
The project will cost some P187,920,000 inclusive of the road right of way acquisition and is considered feasible given the computed Benefit Cost Ratio of 1.22.
For Siquijor, three more bridges are up for inclusion in the Tulay ng Pangulo Para sa Kaunlarang Pang-agraryo Projects with a total estimated cost of P62 million while Cebu province has 10 more with a total estimated cost of P463 million.
These are the Candigum-Cang-agong Bridge, Candigum-Cang-apa Bridge, and Kinamandagan-Tignao Bridge for Siquijor province and the Bagakay, Cabcaban, Bagay, Agsuwao, Panalipan, Mulao, Mulao-Dapdap, Sayaw, Zaragosa-Toyokon, and Bojo Bridges of Cebu province.
The project aims to increase household income of beneficiaries and improve their quality of life through better rural infrastructure as it improves Agrarian Reform Communities (ARCs) access to productive assets/opportunities and services. It will further improve the mobility and access of goods and services that supports economic development, the resolution said.
Meanwhile, the RDC also reported status of the DPWH Mega Bridge project and Tulay ng Pangulo projects in Bohol which were endorsed during the 4th Quarter RDC Full Council Meeting in Cebu City.
