Pangasinan candidates sign covenant for peaceful elections

Dagupan City (25 March) -- Re-electionist Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. led some 45 political candidates in Pangasinan in the Peace Covenant signing last Tuesday at the Lay Formation Center in Bonuan Gueset, this city.

The Peace Covenant was initiated jointly by the Philippine National Police and the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) in coordination with Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas and the Commission on Elections.

The covenant aims to create solidarity among the candidates whose objective is the progress of the province and to uphold the dignity of man and respect his rights and freedom.

Espino lauded the organizers saying "this is very nice, kasi nangako kami sa Diyos na we will only stick on campaign issues like what kind of governance we will have, walang personalan."

The signatories declared to faithfully abide and respect the covenant to ensure orderly, clean, honest, accurate, meaningful and peaceful elections on May 10.
