OPV Quezon to hold symposium on rabies awareness

Lucena City (25 March) -- The Office of the Provincial Veterinarian (OPV-Quezon) will conduct symposium on rabies awareness this month of March 2010 in various offices of the provincial government. This is part of the rabies awareness month this year with the theme"Working together for a free- rabies Philippines, register and vaccinate your dogs".
The symposium which will be highlighted also by a film showing and distribution of IEC materials aims to educate the provincial government employees on rabies matters.
Dra. Uranza, Veterinarian III of the OPV- Quezon said the OPV had vaccinated 97,421 dogs last year (2009) from the total 189,551 dog population in Quezon last year."The target no. of dogs to be vaccinated this year (2010) is 80% of the total dog population of the province last year." Dra. Uranza added.
Aside from anti-rabies vaccination, they conducted also film showing on rabies awareness, launching of R.A 9482 and distribution of IEC materials particularly last September 2009 where World Rabies Day celebration was held.
In giving awareness to the farmers, students and other concerns to this rabies matters, the OPV personnel initiated various information campaign last year (2009) such as publication of rabies articles/ leaflets, radio plugs/ interviews, pamphlet dissemination, seminars and annual dog show. Seminars were also held in different municipalities like Sampaloc, Plaridel, Mauban, Lucban, Guinayangan, Mulanay, Atimonan, San Francisco, Calauag, Lopez, Sariaya, Candelaria, San Antonio, Dolores and Tiaong, Quezon.
The OPV-Quezon headed by OIC Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Gerald Montierro is still finalizing their program plan on anti-rabies to be implemented in the province of Quezon this year, 2010. (PIA-Quezon) [top]
