PGMA honors Basilan CAA for heroic achievement

Isabela City, Basilan (31 March) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo honored and awarded three CAFGU Active Auxiliaries (CAA) who were killed in fighting the lawless elements in the province of Basilan in a simple ceremony during her camp visit at the Headquarters of Marine Battalion Landing Team - 10 at Barangay Camalig, Ungkaya Pukan, Basilan Province yesterday March 25, 2010.

PGMA awarded the Military Merit Medal with Bronze Spearhead Device (Posthumous) to CAA Estilito M Bacus who gave the ultimate sacrifice of losing his life in fighting the more than 50 members of lawless armed group under Dick Alao that attacked Barangay Tubigan, Maluso, Basilan on February 27, 2010.

The same military award of heroic achievement were also given to CAA Monir Asarul and CAA Ahmad Kabung who were killed during the conduct of combat operations against the ASG/lawless armed group on March 20, 2010 at Barangay Guiong, Sumisip, Basilan which resulted to the death of the notorious KFRG leader Abugao Bayali and one (1) of his unidentified follower.

Said military awards including a Special Financial Assistance of One Hundred Thousands Pesos for each of the CAA who were killed in action were received by their respective wives namely; Mrs Concepcion J Bacus, Mrs Berkisa Asarul and Mrs Nuray Kabung.

President Arroyo congratulated the awardees for the job well done, as well as consoled the wives of the fallen CAFGU members. She added that the bravery shown by their husbands is the greatest manifestation of their will in protecting their community as well as their families living therein.

Included in the said rites is the awarding of Military Merit Medal with Bronze Spearhead Device to Lieutenant Julius L Pablo from the 32IB, Philippine Army and Sergeant Amado O Benilan from MBLT-7 Philippine Navy (Marines) in recognition of their gallantry in action and heroic achievements in combating terrorism in the province of Basilan.
