Pangasinan Day events unfold
Lingayen, Pangasinan (31 March) -- It's all systems go for the maiden celebration of Agew na Pangasinan on April 5.
Several events have been lined up to commemorate the province's 430th anniversary, according to organizers.
Sixth district Board Member Alfonso Bince said that the realization of the big event was a product of the sense of history of Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr.
Espino created a research and study committee chaired by Atty. Gonzalo T. Duque to come up with significant data to establish facts on the establishment of Pangasinan as a province.
Bince noted that the past governors also made an attempt to determine the foundation date but apparently they lacked the desire to pursue an extensive research to establish the facts.
Meanwhile, the Sison Cultural and Heritage Center, formerly called Sison Auditorium, will house the historical documents of the province of Pangasinan during its 430 years of existence.
Outstanding Pangasinenses who have made remarkable historical imprints in various fields for the last 430 years will be honored.
Former governors and their families have been invited including Conrado Estrella who at 93 years old is the longest living former chief executive of Pangasinan.
Other spectacular events lined up for the celebration are the civic parade dubbed as “Parada na Dayew Mi,” which will showcase the timelines in the history of Pangasinan, the unveiling of the provincial seal and historical marker showing 1580 as the foundation date, a concert featuring famous bands, a grand display of fireworks at the Lingayen beach area and inauguration of the Pangasinan Eco-Tourism Zone in Brgy. Estanza, here. (PIO/PIA Pangasinan) [top]
