Prevent violence, observe gun ban - PNP
Iloilo (4 May) -- Police Regional Office 6 Regional director Isagani Cuevas has warned the public anew to strictly observe gun ban and help prevent violence.
This in the wake of increasing number of gun ban violators recorded a few days before the May 10 elections.
The PRO chief said they have already arrested 214 violators and confiscated 179 firearms since January this year, with 183 civilians, four members of the AFP, 11 government officials and 15 others.
Aside from the firearms, PRO6 records showed the police had also seized 47 blade weapons and six grenades.
Cuevas said to date, they have already filed 136 cases in court and investigations are still going on 64 incidents.
The arrests, Cuevas said, were yielded by PNP-Comelec check/chokepoint operations, explaining that the gun ban is being enforced to prevent any form of election-related violent incidents.
Cuevas added the PNP support the campaign for honest, orderly and peaceful elections and asked everyone to cooperate. (PRO6/PIA6/ESS) [top]
