New fisherfolk director assumes office

by Oliver T. Baccay

Tuguegarao City (4 May) -- Regional Director Jovita P. Ayson of the Bureau of Fisheries Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 2 has installed the 2010 director of the fisherfolk sector.

Mr. Sixto Trinidad, a Gawad Saka farmer awardee who hails from Amulung, Cagayan has assumed his post as the incoming Fisherfolk Director to continue the programs and projects ensuring the welfare of fisherfolk of region 2.

The installation is in line with the celebration of Farmers' and Fisherfolk Month which aims to give due recognition and tribute to farmers and fisherfolk who tirelessly toil the lands and inland bodies of water and seas.

Dir. Ayson said the celebration highlights the role of farmers and fisherfolk as partners of the government and the country's backbone in poverty alleviation and food security program.

To further enhance and popularize the fisherfolk empowerment and participation as government partners, Ayson said the fisherfolk director will act as BFAR Director for the whole month of the celebration which is dubbed as "Mangingisdang Direktor Para sa Matatag na Balikatan",

"Mr. Trinidad will assume my role and task in the implementation and dissemination of key programs of the agency. However, his authority is limited to non-policy determining activities which should not in any way affect the government accounting rules and procedures as well as civil service rules and regulations governing regular government operations" Ayson stated.

Trinidad, on the other hand, accepted the challenges in assuming the roles and tasks of Dir. Ayson for the month of May and in helping BFAR in implementing laws protecting the resources in the bodies of water and seas in the region. (PIA 2) [top]
