PIA Press Release

DSWD reminds conditions to 4Ps

By Ninfa B Quirante

Catbalogan City (4 May) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Regional Office 8, based in Tacloban City reminded beneficiaries of the conditions that the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) have to abide to avoid delisting or being dropped from the rolls.

In a press conference in PIA-Samar, today, attended by the Catbalogan and Calbayog media and partly aired at Aksyon Radyo-DYMS, Dir. Letecia Corillo said that beneficiaries have to abide by the conditions before receiving another quarterly allotment.

Pregnant women must get pre and post natal care, and be attended during childbirth by a skilled/trained health professional.

Parents or guardians must attend responsible parenthood sessions, mothers? classes and parent effectiveness seminars.

Aside from the first two conditions, the children of 4Ps beneficiaries aged 0 to five must receive regular preventive health check up and vaccines.

Children aged 3-5 years old must also attend day care or pre-school classes at least 85% of the time; and that children 6 to 14 years must also enrol in elementary or high school and attend at least 85% of the time.

When asked how DSWD monitors compliance to conditions, Ms Yvone Abunales, said that the DSWD in coordination with the Advisory Council composed of DepEd, DOH, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) and the Local Government Unit (LGU) representatives at the national, regional and municipal level will verify compliance every two months using monitoring tools designed for the purpose.

The panel at the press con was swarmed by questions about people whom the media claim are not eligible but are included and other beneficiaries, they deem qualified but were not included.

Dir. Corillo explained the process starting with a survey where the real motive was not revealed. She assured the Samarenos that the beneficiaries were selected through a uniform, objective and transparent set of criteria.

She also hailed the beneficiaries who waive, for being honest that they were not really that poor to be given the cash grant.

The 4Ps has so far released some P 219, 234, 490 in the province of Samar. The cash grants will continue after the election period, according to the fliers released to the media. (PIA-Samar) [top]
