Soldiers spearhead 3rd peace rally for HOPE in ComVal
Camp Apolinario, Panacan, Davao City (5 May) -- Soldiers in Compostela Valley (ComVal) Province spearheaded and finished the third in a series of peace rallies for Honest Orderly and Peaceful Elections (HOPE) held at the municipal Gym in Poblacion in Maco town 8:00 AM Saturday.
The half-day motorcade and peace rally was attended by some 1,000 local residents, candidates, Local Government Units' employees, Non-government Organizations and People's Organizations who witnessed the signing of a peace covenant among contending parties who agreed for a violence-free election in the province.
"The peaceful conduct of election this May is our main concern and by the rate we are going, we can see a bright outcome as we cast our vote barely 10 days from now. The overwhelming support and cooperation of the people, the candidates and other stakeholders in this peace rally bespeak of our desire as one people to really have an Honest, Orderly and peaceful Election." Col. Romeo Calizo, commander of the army's 1001st Infantry (PAGASA) Brigade who hosted the event said.
"As we emphasized in our previous peace rallies, it is our earnest hope that all of us will come up triumphant after the election knowing that we voted for the person we know would lead us in this place to a greater heights. The triumph of whoever wins in this coming election by the grace of God and by the decision of the people; is the triumph of democracy." Calizo concluded citing the two successful peace rallies they hosted.
Last April, two peace rallies for HOPE spearheaded by soldiers were held in ComVal province with overwhelming support and cooperation from residents, candidates and different organizations in the province. (PIA) [top]
