Comval holds small-scale mining summit on World Earth Day
Davao City (5 May) -- As its own way of celebrating the World Earth Day, the provincial government of Compostela Valley through the Agriculturist Office (PAGRO) spearheads the Small Scale Mining Summit on April 22 at the Nabunturan National Comprehensive High School Gymnasium, Nabunturan.
This was attended by leaders and groups from the small scale miners and gold ore mineral processors all over Comval with its rallying theme, "Kinaiyahan tinubdan sa Bulawan, atong ampingan."
Regional Director Edilberto Arreza of the Mines and Geo-Sciences Bureau (MGB) gave an overview of the Mining Industry, the rules, regulations and policies embracing small scale mining permits.
Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) Glenn Adonis Rico also discussed the role of DENR in the preservation of natural resources affecting mining industry. While Regional Director Metudio Turbella of the Environment Management Bureau (EMB) discussed the importance of environmental management and protection relative to mining and processing activity.
Moreover, Ralph Basa as a Small Scale Miners Consultant, orient miners on the Small Scale Mining Industry towards economic development.
Gov. Arturo Uy, in his message, reminds them of their responsibility and role in the protection of the environment. "It is our moral obligation to conserve and protect our natural resources so that our children's children can still benefit from it," he said. (ids comval) [top]
