Arbiche Studio bags Comval's travelogue video contest

Davao City (5 May) -- Twenty-seven (27) judges? The number is uncommonly high for a panel of judges but such is the participatory judging system designed to involve as many viewers to the best tourism investment travelogue that captured the essence of what Compostela Valley is all about.

In the end, Arnel Barbarona of Arbiche Studio in Tagum City bested 4 other competitors to the "Capture Comval" video competition and took home a plaque and PhP50,000.00 cash prize. Barbarona was awarded last year's Mindanao Film Fest with his entry "Anino" as Best Cinematography and Best Music Score. He is currently working on an indie film and is taking online course on film at Lights Film School based in New York.

Executive Assistant Belo Melendres, in behalf of Gov. Arturo Uy, chaired the panel of judges composed of provincial board members, department and section heads of the Compostela Valley provincial government, its 11 municipal tourism officers, officers of the Provincial Tourism Council and the Small Hotels and Resorts Association (SHARE), and barangay captains hosting major eco-tourism sites. The criteria of judging is based on visual artistry and production value both at 40% each and over-all impact at 20%.

"Selling destinations should involve the participation of people. Involvement means love of place. Ultimately, it is love and pride of place that will make or break the promotion and marketing of the charming sites of our province," provincial tourism officer Christine T. Dompor explained.

The screening and judging of the five entries was held on April 29 at the Session Hall of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, Capitol in barangay Cabidianan, Nabunturan.

The other competitors are CM Production Studio of Mawab, Compostela Valley ; Visual Insights Creatives of Davao City; Norman Adlawan Production Studio of Tagum City, and Bryan D. Tan Studio of Nabunturan, Compostela Valley.

Capture ComVal: The Shoot

The shoot reeled off on March 23 and ended on March 26, a three-day sojourn that took the participants to the different destination sites and the heartlands of Compostela Valley to capture the province's natural beauty, moments in the lives of its people, investment areas, and its unique tourism offers.

The videographers rode the currents of ComVal's coastlines to shoot Kopiat island, twisted through the snaking, ascending highland roads of the heartlands amid the sweeping landscape of the jungles of ferns, valleys, hills, and plunging gorges from Panoraon to Maragusan to New Bataan to Diwalwal.

They negotiated the caves of Laak, captured the vestigial sulfuric air of Mainit hot spring, caught the cascading falls and rafflesia of Maragusan, and plunged into the womb of the gold mine tunnels of Diwalwal.

To assist them, the provincial tourism office gave the participants guides to best express the varied themes of the shoot focused on such concepts as: The Secrets of ComVal, Discover ComVal, I Love ComVal, Conquer! ComVal, Into the Heart of ComVal, ComVal, the Valley of Gold, The Charms of ComVal. (tss/ids comval) [top]
