Calabarzon MSMEs join international food expo

Calamba City (5 May) -- The International Food Exposition (IFEX) Philippines, the leading annual trade fair for the country's food industry and exporters, opens May 6-8, 2010, at the World trade Center in Pasay City.

At least 10 food enterprises from the provinces of Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Quezon and Rizal will participate in the fair: Merlo Agricultural Cooperative of Batangas; Café Amadeo Development Cooperative, Carm Food Enterprises, and Talleres de Nazaret, Cavite; Escaba Food Products, Golden Arrow Food Enterprises and Choco Vron Bakeshop of Laguna; Dory's Lambanog of Quezon; and MLGS Herb Products and Balaw-Balaw Foods, Inc. of Rizal.

IFEX in previous years has provided the Calabarzon food enterprises the platform for exposure to greener and wider markets.

During IFEX 2007, four of the ten awards presented were given to Calabarzon exhibitors.

The Calabarzon Region bagged the Best Setting Award for 2007; Fortress Food Manufacturing Corporation (Rizal) grabbed the Best Booth Award; Chanos-Chanos of Batangas received a "Novel Product Award" due to its "Liver Paté"; and Letty's Buko Pie, received a citation due to its sophisticated packaging for espasol products.

Moreover, CITEM nominated the products of six enterprises from the region to be included for sale at the SM Pasalubong Corner.

As another outcome of participating to IFEX, cooking demonstrations featuring Rizal's Balaw-balaw (canned/bottled gourmet food - duck dishes) and Laguna's Escaba Food Products (fruit preserves, dips) were aired at Studio 23's "Breakfast".

Also, Cavite's Deli Delata, Chanos-chanos, and Fortress Food were made guests at other television and radio shows promoting their products and IFEX 2007 as well.

Now on its 7th year, IFEX Philippines features an international hall that will present a variety of food culture and exciting trends from different countries making IFEX a truly global marketplace of luscious dishes and exciting food ideas from every corner of the globe.

The fair covers beverages, meat and poultry, natural, herbal and organic products, biscuits, snacks, and confectioneries, fine food and specialties, marine products, fresh and processed fruits and vegetables, and allied products and services.

One may visit and simply taste the flavors of the world, or discover business opportunities with top brands from the local and the international food scene.

IFEX is a project of the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), an agency of the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry that promotes exports through trade fairs, special exhibits, in-store promotions, trade missions, and other promotional activities here and overseas.
