BIR Iloilo generates P828.6 million in Q1

by T. Villavert

Iloilo City (5 May) -- The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Revenue District Office 74 reported that the taxes generated in the first quarter of the year reached P828.6 million.

District Officer Nelia Demalata disclosed in a PIA-Cable Television program that the January to March 2010 collections is up by 32.79% as against the P624 million collected in the same period last year.

Demalata explained that their January to March tax goal is P678.6 M and has successfully collected P828.6 million up by 22.6% or P149.7 million.

She attributed the increase in tax collections to the massive tax campaign activities that they have conducted involving all sources of taxes covering the Revenue District 74 in Iloilo.

"The information campaign that we have conducted with tax payers per line of industry, business or profession have significant contributions in our tax collection efforts", Demalata said.

Demalata said that the taxes collected will help improve the delivery of social services to Filipinos and build more infrastructure to sustain long-term economic growth.

She said that they have positive outlook to meet their annual tax goal of P3.9 billion, and has expressed confidence that "by God?s grace we expect a good collection from our tax payers? continued support with the programs of the BIR". (PIA6) [top]
