Negrense wins DOLE national award
Bacolod City (5 May) -- The lone entry of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 6 in the individual category won first prize in the recent National Search for DOLE Best-Assisted Livelihood Projects.
Ma. Zeny Belen of Isabela, Negros Occidental, DOLE 6 entry in the Sikap Kabuhayan Award bested those from Region 8 and CARAGA Region.
Belen received a kabuhayan certificate worth P150,000 from President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo at the awarding ceremony held at the Mall of Asia as part of the Labor Day Celebration.
The winner was selling ice water and halo-halo before she qualifies to avail of the livelihood assistance of P5,000 from DOLE which she used to expand her business into an eatery. Her income increased from an average of P350 to P3,500 a day.
DOLE 6 Director Aida Estabillo said she was overwhelmed by the result though she was very positive that the region?s entries would bag the first prize.
Kabuhayan Awards is a recognition given by DOLE to outstanding individuals and workers groups that implement DOLE-assisted livelihood projects and served as role models for emerging entrepreneurs. (DOLE/PIA/cad) [top]
