150 Capiz detainees to vote on May 10

Roxas City (7 May) -- A total of 150 detainees in Capiz were given order by the Regional Trial Court in Roxas City to be allowed to vote in the May 10 national and local elections.
RTC Executive Judge Edward Contreras had already issued an order allowing said detainees who are in the custody of the Capiz Rehabilitation Center and the Bureau of jail Management and Penology.
According to lawyer Meneleo Aguirre, who is the clerk of court of RTC Branch 17, of the total number of detainees, 78 of whom are confined at the CRC in Lawaan, Roxas City while the remaining 72 are at the BJMP in San Jose, Roxas City.
The court order is in response to the motion filed with the court to allow said prisoners to go out of their detention cells and vote in this elections.
According to Aguirre, some of the detainees are registered voters in San Jose, Libas, Barra, Talon, Barangay 9, Culasi, Adlawan and Inzo Arnaldo, all in Roxas City.
On the other hand, Provincial Guard Rioben Borlado disclosed that the 78 of the CRC will vote in Barangay Lawaan, Roxas City.
Borlado said that they have already assigned provincial guards to escort said detainees to and from their voting precincts. (PIA) [top]
