Manila (7 May) -- President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo recently accepted the credentials of new Republic of Turkey Ambassador to the Philippines Hatice Pinar Isik at the Rizal Hall of Malacaņang.

The President conveyed to Ambassador Isik that she looks forward to the continuation of the good cultural, historical and political bilateral relations between the Philippines and Turkey during her tour of duty here.

The President told the ambassador she was earlier assured of the Turkish government's support to build lasting peace in Mindanao.

The President met with Turkish President Abdullah Gul during her state visit to Istanbul in September last year.

During their meeting, the Turkish leader expressed support for the Philippines' observer status bid in the powerful Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC).

An OIC member, Turkey plays a key role in maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East.

On her part, Ambassador Isik told the President the she brings the warm greetings of President Gul for the continued prosperity of the Philippines as she assured to foster the valued and important partnership between the two countries.
