PGMA to inaugurate Alabang foot bridge
Manila (7 May) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will inaugurate today (May 7) the country's second longest pedestrian footbridge in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
The 403-meter Alabang-Montillano footbridge, traversing the busy major streets of Montillano, Alabang-Zapote Road, and Radial Road 3, is the second biggest footbridge after Bicutan constructed by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
The steel footbridge is 2.4-meter wide designed to serve some 450,000 pedestrians daily during school days and nearly 300,000 during summer vacation.
Works on the P59.32-million footbridge started in November last year. It was completed in March this year.
In line with the President's program, the MMDA has so far established 60 steel footbridges in Metro Manila catering to an average of 2.2 million pedestrians every day.
Today's ceremony marking the official public opening of the footbridge will be attended by MMDA Chairman Oscar Inocentes and local government officials led by Muntinlupa City Mayor Aldrin San Pedro. (PIA-MMIO) [top]
