Digos folks eagerly await election results

Digos City, Davao del Sur (11 May) -- A throng of eager residents here last night gathered in front of the Sangguniang Panglungsod building to witness the transmission of election returns being flashed in a wide screen.
Digos folks who patiently waited for the result of the election, were amazed at the color indicator lights indicating the status of transmission of election returns from the barangay level.
As of 10 pm last night, three colors were noted in the wide screen. Only Brgy. Kapatagan lighted color green signifying that it was the first to completely transmit the returns. The barangay has eight (8) clustered precincts.
Several other barangays were at the color yellow status indicating partial transmission. While the rest were at the red color indicator showing that transmission has not yet started.
At the provincial canvassing center, as of 9:30 pm last night, all transmission indicators flashed in the laptop screen were still in red light revealing that transmission had not started yet from the municipalities.
According to Provincial Director Vicente Dagangon of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Digos City was expected to transmit the last considering that it covers the biggest voting population in the province with 94,216 registered voters.
Malita is next to Digos City with 72,997 registered voters. The province has 518, 987 registered voters with 710 clustered precincts.
Dagangon explained that the municipal board of canvassers has to consolidate first all returns from the precincts before it could transmit to the provincial level.
He said that by 11 pm last night there would be initial transmission from the municipalities especially with low voting populace.
Dagangon is a member of the provincial board of canvassers, along with Provincial Election Supervisor Ma. Febes Barlaan, as chair; Provincial Prosecutor Artemio Tajon as vice-chair; and DepEd's Division Superintendent Louella Tancontian, as secretary. (PIA-XI) [top]
