Zambo City election canvass moves slowly but surely

By JP Alvarez

Zamboanga City (11 May) -- Despite major delay in the transmission of results, canvassing continues.

The failure of some 19 barangays to transmit election report caused the delay of canvassing in this part of the region.

According to BOC Chair Atty. Sakandal, the failure was due to inevitable technical problem that occurred during the process of transmission. "This is usually caused by 'no signal' in few occasions," he said.

But Comelec 9 was quick to respond to this problem as contingency machines and its accessories were readily available to address the situation.

Two contingency PCOS machines were immediately set up to hasten canvassing.

It can be recalled, canvassing started 9:30 pm last night at the Sangguniang Panglungsod (SP) session hall, at RT Lim Blvd., this city. Transmission of results from the precinct down to the server (at the SP session hall) was being conducted when BOC chair Alkadam Sakandal questioned why 19 of the city?s 48 brgys yielded zero transmission.

Concerned BEIs were immediately alerted & advice to personally deliver/submit the main memory cards with the back-up cards to the BOCs for uploading and results transfer.

It was however noted that precincts which failed to transmit reports are either located at far fang areas or belong to one of the largest barangays in the city.

As of press time, canvassing is on going with 89.7%) precincts having transmitted results.

Comelec recorded some 194, 386 total votes cast or 40.81%

Meanwhile, peaceful conduct of election was observed. Police and military visibility was seen in almost all polling places. No untoward, election-related incident occurred during election. (PIA ZC) [top]
