Dipolog LP bets win by landslide
Dipolog City (13 May) -- It was 12-0 in favor of candidates running for mayor down to councilors here under the Liberal Party (LP).
LP mayoral candidate Evelyn Tang-Uy, who ran for her second term and all the candidates in her lineup overwhelmingly won in the recently concluded national and local elections.
Uy garnered 31,408 votes while his rival Franklin Lim of Lakas-CMD only got 20,577 votes. Her vice mayor Senen O. Angeles also got a lead of more than 6,000 votes over his rival Lakas-CMD candidate Edionar Zamoras.
Standing on the principle of good governance and leadership by example, the electorate gave the first lady mayor a fresh mandate, allowing her to continue her development programs and projects for the city.
The winning councilors are Dante G. Bagarinao, Horacio B. Velasco, Jonald Napigquit, James P. Verduguez, Marvelita Pinsoy, Kenny Ong, Romulo Soliva, Praxides Rubia, James Cyril Ruiz and Rubencio B. Legorio.
Atty. Roderick Tome, City Election Officer, disclosed that 84.11 percent of the city?s 64,662 registered voters participated in last Monday?s balloting.
For candidates vying for provincial posts, incumbent governor Rolando Yebes and his running mate Francis Olvis of Lakas-CMD are likely to win. Partial results from the election returns canvassed by the Provincial Board of Canvassers (PBOC) gave them a comfortable lead over their closest rivals LP gubernatorial candidate Isagani Amatong and running mate Roberto Pinsoy.
Lakas-CMD candidates for the provincial board are also leading in the PBOC count.
Unlike in other parts of Mindanao, the conduct of the national and local elections in the province was generally peaceful and orderly. (PIA-ZN) [top]
