Comelec proclaims PGMA winner in Pampanga's 2nd congressional district

San Fernando City, Pampanga (13 May) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was officially proclaimed tonight by the local Commission on Election as the winner in the congressional contest in Pampanga's 2nd district.

Provincial election officer Temei Lambino said the May 10 election balloting showed President Arroyo (as of 5 p.m. today), garnering 169, 109 votes, or 77.01 percent of tallied ballots, with her her closest rival, Liberal Party candidate Adonis Simpao, getting only 20,992.

Although she made no campaign sortie in the province, President Arroyo's landslide win has been expected after local leaders committed to her to do the campaigning themselves. She ran under the administration party, Lakas-Kampi-CMD.

Pampanga's second district has six towns; Lubao, the President's hometown, Sta. Rita, Guagua, Sasmuan, Porac and Floridablanca.

Other notable winners from the administration party were Lilia Pineda as Pampanga governor and Joseller "Yeng" Guiao, as vice governor. (PIA-MMIO) [top]
