8th ID opens training for new soldiers

Catbalogan City, Samar (May 13) -- The Philippine Armyís 8th Infantry Division (8th ID) through a simple ceremony had the reception of some 250 young and willing candidates for soldiery at the commandís hallowed ground 9:00 A.M., Wednesday.

Traditional military reception took place after the opening ceremony where candidates underwent series of military exercises that they will perform frequently during the entire training phases to develop physical stamina.

No less than the 8th ID commanding general, Major General Arthur Tabaquero graced the occasion as speaker.

In his message, Major General Tabaquero reminded the candidate soldiers that aside from having a tough and rigid training, they will be separated from their families.

He added that the trainees will be honed and developed into disciplined, determined, courageous, mentally sharp and loyal soldiers after the training.

He also encouraged them to value the opportunity of being one of the chosen soldiers out of the thousands who keep on dreaming to join the ranks of the living heroes.

General Tabaquero also reminded the members of the training directorate who will handle the training.

"To the training Committee, I encourage you to conduct the training professionally so that we can produce disciplined, committed and well-equipped soldiers after the training," the good general said.

Officers, enlisted personnel, civilian employees, parents and other wait-listed applicants of the candidate soldier course stood as witnesses.

This is the first batch of three batches of soldier course for calendar year 2010.

Two more batches are expected to convene in three weeks time to fill the 600 quota of recruits for the 8th Division for the calendar year 2010. (PIA-Samar with AFR/JGM of DPAO 8th ID) [top]
