388 Students employed under SPES in Ifugao

Lagawe, Ifugao (15 May) -- A total of 388 students have been employed this summer vacation under the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
SPES is yearly undertaking of the agency in coordination with local government units (LGUs) who are willing to shoulder and share in the salary of the workers, also known as "summer jobbers."
According to Chief Labor Employment Officer (LEO), Dr. Alex Gumabol, nine municipalities plus the provincial government, willingly accommodated and responded for this year's SPES employment in the province.
Gumabol disclosed the following entities as DOLE's SPES co-sponsors, and their corresponding number of student placements: Provincial Government, 57; Mayoyao,55; Alfonso Lista, 47; Aguinaldo, 43; Tinoc, 40; Banaue, 33; Hungduan, 30; Asipulo, 28; Lamu, 28 and Hingyon, 27.
He explained that work for this year's summer jobbers began last month for a 20 day employment period, with DOLE sharing 60% of the wages while the concerned LGU counterpart is 40%.
The rate of summer jobbers range from P173.27 - 207.91 depending on the LGU – Department of Budget and Management classification.
Among the requirements to qualify in the SPES program is that the student must not be less than 15 years of age at start of work, and not more than 25, the annual income of the parents does not exceed the annual regional per Capita Poverty Threshold in the province, no failing mark on any subject, and must have an average grade of 80%.
