Kalinga launches Brigada Eskwela

Tabuk City, Kalinga (15 May) -- The province will host this year's launching of the Brigada Eskwela or the National Schools Maintenance Week at the Appas Elementary School here in preparation for the opening of classes in June.

Kalinga Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Norma Brillantes said the launching on May 14 marks the one-week preparation activities for the opening of classes on June 7, 2010.

In accordance with DepEd Order No. 25, series of 2009, the Brigada Eskwela which is a nationwide schools maintenance program, should be conducted two week prior to school opening.

This activity involves all stakeholders like parents, communities, civic groups, local businesses, alumni, officials, volunteers and private individuals to contribute their time, effort and resources to do repairs and maintenance work in public schools.

This is to ensure that public school children will have a school with clean and comfortable learning environment.

Participation of the public during the past Brigada Ekwela activities are not limited only to physical presence but services are also rendered as volunteers share their skills in painting walls, cementing footpaths, repair faulty plumbing, replace leaky roofs or even tend the school garden.
