PGMA to inaugurate Opao Bridge in Dapitan City
Dipolog City (17 May) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is set to inaugurate a newly completed bridge at Opao, Dapitan City tomorrow.
The Opao bridge, which is a two-lane steel truss type bridge, is now ready to be turned-over to the third engineering district of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) based in Dapitan City.
DPWH has given priority to the construction of a new bridge after the old and dilapidated one-lane jumbo bridge could no longer bear big cargo trucks, buses and other vehicles traveling the national road from Zamboanga del Norte to the nearby provinces of Misamis Occidental and Zamboanga del Sur. It is 88.465 linear meters long with a project cost of P71.038 million.
The bridge whose funding came from the United Kingdom (UK) bridge program and the national government has become 100 percent complete in January this year.
President Arroyo has been to her legacy projects for the past weeks, either inaugurating the completed ones or doing inspections of the ongoing projects.
Last week the President was in Pagadian City to witness the ceremonial vaccination of employees of the Springland Hotel against AH1N1 or bird flu. (PIA-ZN) [top]
