Comelec urges LGUs to hasten removal of campaign posters
Negros Occ. (17 May) -- Comelec Provincial Election Supervisor Jessie Suarez urged LGUs in the province to hasten the removal of election campaign materials in their respective areas.
In an interview, Suarez said Comelec is undermanned and during election they had to request for additional manpower from local governments to augment their force.
He said the recent election in the province was a success.
"There was no untoward incident, the program was quite good and the election was practically in order. That is why we were able to proclaim all winning candidates in the time allotted for us," he told PIA.
In Bacolod City, third termer Mayor Evelio Leonardia led his group in clearing portions of the city of campaign posters and materials.
Local PNP as well helped in the removal of unwanted materials to restore the beauty of some areas illegally posted with election materials.
PNP Spokesman Police Chief Inspector Jefferson Descallar said some LGUs have made a quick move to clean their places with the help of policemen. Among them: Kabankalan and La Carlota Cities, and the municipalities of La Castellana and Pulupandan.
The PNP under the leadership of Police Sr. Supt. Manuel Felix has ordered the men in uniform to take an active role in the cleaning in coordination with the Comelec and the LGUs. (PIA-LOL) [top]
