RDR: It's time to buckle down to work

by Noel Baguio

Davao City (18 May) -- Governor Rodolfo Del Rosario called on winning officials to put their plans in order as soon as they assume their respective posts in July.

Del Rosario, who got a fresh mandate after running unopposed as a reelectionist governor, said this is the best way the newly-proclaimed officials would be able to return the big favor and express their heartfelt gratitude to the people.

"I hope the winning officials will return the great favor through an honest-to-goodness public service," he urged.

However, for successful reelectionists like him, it is time to buckle down having not to wait until winning officials assume their respective posts the following month.

He said it is now time to "roll up our sleeves again and start working hard" for progress.

He vowed to continue the thrusts, programs and projects that he started during his first term of office that particularly aim to develop the barangays.

The governor bared he intends to keep his all-encompassing RDR WHEELS program, the Project NOBLE (No Barangay Left Behind) and his No Dead End project, among other undertakings.

"It is important to develop our barangays first if we are to hasten progress. We cannot simply put our resources into big projects but at the same leave the barangays behind to survive on its own," he said.

He is cheerful about the commitment of his son Congressman-elect Anthony del Rosario to provide additional funding will come a long way in developing the barangays.

Gov. del Rosario also looks forward to the promises of President-elect Benigno Aquino III in making reforms in governance to stop corruption and reduce poverty.

According to him, it will not take long before the national government can generate a lot more resources which the province will be able to tap to pursue its development goals.

He also asked his people to unite under the new set of national and local leaders in order to facilitate better reforms in governance.

"As in the past, rest assured that we will take good care of the province, and its resources for the benefit of the majority of our people," he pledged.

Gov. del Rosario further cited the time and effort the Dabaonons afforded during Election Day just to make their voices heard, ensuring the success of the polls.

He commended the voters for waiting several hours in long queues and braving the summer heat and drizzle in some areas, the humidity and all the confusion if only to cast their ballots.

While the governor credited the winning candidates for their humility in victory, the governor also commended the losing candidates for their grace in the face of defeat.

"For those among us who won the elections, the problem begins and its time to work. But, those who lost will just have to wait for the next elections in 2013," he cracked. (PIA) [top]
