Adiong beautifies ORG compound

by Moner C. Dayaan

Cotabato City (19 May) -- Few months ago since the assumption of Hon. Ansaruddin Alonto-Adiong as Acting Regional Governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, facelifting of the ORG Compound by providing additional lighting facilities and to its permeters took off and still continuing.

In an interview with DPWH-ARMM Regional Secretary Engineer Titingalangit C. Sumagayan Tuesday, it was learned by the Phlippine Information Agency-Cotabato City Office that an initial more than P4-million has been earmarked for the said project.

Sumagayan disclosed that said amount is being used to provide more lighting facilities in the ORG Compound, especially the fašade of the ORG building purposely, to first, deter possible occurrence of incidents and for promenaders at night to experience brighter lighting during their stay in the compound.

Few weeks ago, early morning joggers and some individuals who give time to breath fresh air in the compound have given various constructive and favorable commendations to the present ARMM dispensation. "Dati-dati ayaw namin mag-stay o walk around the compound even past seven o'clock at night because of no enough lighting and the presence of several uniformed men with high-powered weapons and the display of military vehicles. "Medyo nakakatakot po," quipped a promenader. "Pero ngayon panatag na ang kalooban namin sa pag-roam around the compound because of the present facelifting of the ORG compound,' added by a group of teenagers.

Elevation of the present fencing structures surrounding the flag pole of ORG's fašade is one of the many features being undertaken by DPWH-ARMM through its Project Engineer,Eng. Mangorlaya "Andy" Madid, Chief, Construction Division, DPWH-ARMM. Sumagayan also bared that if there will be an available funds of his Department, he intends to plant "buko pandan" coconut seedlings that will come from the town of Malabang, Lanao del Sur to selected corners of the compound. "All these beautiful plans of ARMM ARG Ansaruddin A. Adiong could only be realized depending on the availability of funds," Sumagayan pointed out. "In fact, he added, the initial budget for the facelifting of the ORG compound is taken from our regular funds, like gasoline allotment, travel and other sources, if only to realize these projects." "We have to practice the so-called" belt-tightening" in the department just to give way to these laudable programs and projects of DPWH-ARMM", continued Sumagayan.

A second major project of the present ARMM leadership through the DPWH-ARMM is the setting-up of additional lighting facilities from outside of the ORG gate going to the intersections of Gutirriez and Sinsuat Avenue. The infrastructure project which had already reeled off costing about 2 to 3 million pesos, will provide better lighting to the said center island along Guterriez avenue.

Asked why such projects are being undertaken by the Adiong administration at present, Sumagayan was quick to say, "we would like to leave a rememberance or your may call it a legacy when our incumbency winds up." (PIA) [top]
