AFP condemns burning of schools in Basilan

Zamboanga City (19 May) -- The Armed Forces of the Philippines in Western Mindanao Command strongly condemns the burning of the school buildings in Akbar Municipality, Basilan Province particularly in Barangays Cadayan, Upper Sinangkapan, Mangalut, Panguengan and Semut last 14 May 2010.

Lt Colonel Gamal S Hayudini PAF, Group Commander of the 4th Civil Relations Group, Civil Relations Service, Armed Forces of the Philippines said that such attack perpetrated by lawless groups is a clear deprivation of the supposed brighter future of the young ones.

"These incidents are really disgusting since these people have not only created damage of property but more so, they have stolen the rights of the youth for good education and have stolen the dreams of parents who want their children to have brighter future," Hayudini lamented.

On the other hand, General Delfin Bangit, AFP Chief of Staff directed the troops in the area to intensify further the military offensives against the perpetrators and appeals to the public to support the operations so that order and stability will be sustained.

Furthermore, Western Mindanao Command Chief LtGen Benjamin D Dolorfino assures the public that the military under his command is performing its mandated task and installing security measures to prevent escalation of same incident in other areas. (4CRG-CRSAFP/PIA9-BST) [top]
