Tagalog News: GRP, MILF nagkasundong sirain ang landmines at mga unexploded ordnance

Koronadal City (19 May) -- Nilagdaan na ng GRP (Government of the Republic of the Philippines) at ng Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) ang isang makasaysayang kasunduan para sa disposal at pagsisira ng mga landmines at iba pang mga unexploded ordnance (UXO) na inaasahang makakatulong sa pagsulong ng usapang pangkapayapaan sa pagitan ng dalawang panig.

Ayon kay director Ryan Mark Sullivan ng Government Peace Negotiating Panel (GPNP) secretariat, ang paglagda ay isinagawa kasabay ng pagpapatuloy ng exploratory talks ng dalawang panig sa Kuala Lumpur nitong Mayo a-5 lamang.

Tinukoy din ni Sullivan ang naging mahalagang papel ng grupong Swiss Foundation for Mine Action katuwang ang local na NGO, Philippines? Campaign to Ban Landmines, sa paglagda ngsabing kasunduan.

Ini-ulat din ni Sullivan na mahigit apat na non-government organizations ang binigyan ng mandato na protektahan ang mga sibilyan lalo na yaong nasa itinuturing na conflict-affected areas sa Mindanao. Ang mga grupong ito ay magiging bahagi ng International Monitoring Team (IMT) na tutulong sa mga sibilyan at mga evacuees o ang mga tinatawag na Internally Displaced Persons (IDP).

Ang mga unexploded ordnance at mga landmines ay itinuturing na serious threats sa kaligtasan ng mga sibilyan sa mga conflict-affected areas sa Mindanao. (ac agad PIA12) [top]
