Davao City (21 May) -- Social welfare clients will surely find nobody in the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) regional office and in its centers during Wednesdays and Fridays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
DSWD XI is now getting serious with its fitness program which Regional Director Ester Acebedo-Versoza wants, in a memorandum, every employee to observe and follow.
All employees are required to attend the wellness session, attendance is checked, and this is being made as a component of the agency's performance assessment of its employees.
DSWD XI has 247 employees including casuals, those in contracts and with memorandum of agreement, and those in Group Home for Girls, Regional Rehabilitation for Youth, Reception and Study Center for Children and Home for the Aged.
In an interview, Regional Information Officer Carmela C. Duron noted that employees, even those who have reached elderly stage, are looking forward to the wellness sessions.
"Migaan jud ang akong lawas. Lami kaayo ang pamati nako sa akong lawas," he said.
Duron said DSWD XI had been into wellness activities and even bought equipment to provide easy access for employees to do regular exercise.
Now, the regional agency is doing away with equipment and is getting into aerobics, yoga exercise, belly dancing and kick boxing.
Employees are feeling ownership of the wellness session as fees for professional instructors hired to facilitate the session are taken from their annual sports allowance of P1,200.00.
Though they have received only P825.00 sports allowance this year, Duron said employees are enjoying the wellness session which is being noted to also promote teamwork aside from good health. (PIA XI) [top]
