Butuan City (21 May) -- Once again the DILG XIII Family's craftsmanship stood out and bagged the first prize award in the Butuan City Fiesta's Grand Float Parade contest when it bested other entries from the national government agencies, private organizations and the academe on May 19, 2010. This is the second win of the agency since it joined the contest started in 2008.
This year's theme was "Balangay, the Symbol/Image for Development" with the balangay boat, epitomizing trading of ancient Butuan with neighboring communities, was used as a theme for the contest. It shows that Butuan City, long before invaders and settlers set foot in this city, is already rich in commerce and culture and that proud of its own heritage.
In the morning of the festival, floats designed as Balangay boats sailed along the streets of Butuan City, with each float not only flaunting a colorful and creative design but also showing how the participants contribute to the city's development. With its Dove which symbolizes primitive desire for peace and the transformation torch depicting the DILG Family's burning commitment for public safety role. The DILG's float outshone all other entries. The two icons sent the message to the public that DILG family is for lasting peace and order in our land.
This year's float was conceptualized and artistically built by the designer, PO3 Rico Mata, who also designed last year's float which also won first price.
The DILG XIII Family's 2010 masterpiece mirrors the DILG XIII Family's cohesive relationship as it vows to serve not only the people of Butuan City but the entire region as well. (DILG-13/PIA-Caraga) [top]
